Learning Intention for today – to introduce the concept of student led conferences as an extension of our reporting system and implications for our classroom programmes.
In groups we looked at the reading re Buckland’s Beach nd discussed the main points of what a student led conference looks like. We talked about how we can ensure parents understand that these conferences are not interviews but are a chance for their child to talk about what they can do and where they are going to go next with their learning. The focus of a student led conference is on the child and celebrating their learning.
Reference made to Hattie and his findings re the importance of developing students ability to discuss their learning ( ie What I learned, how I learned it and what my next steps are)
There are many ways to scaffold children to enable them to discuss their learning; eAsstle, graphs, rubrics, cue cards.
The challenge now is to ensure that we prepare our staff, our students and our parents for our first round of student led conferences. We looked at what we already do and some of the things we need to do.
